Traffic Incident Detection System in Zhukovsky City

Zhukovsky City, Moscow, Russia - December 5, 2008 - ISS SecurOS Auto and Traffic image analytics has become the cornerstone of a project for traffic incident detection in Zhukovsky City, Moscow Region. One of the most dangerous crossroads of Zhukovsky City has been chosen for the pilot project. The deployed solution automatically detects vehicles crossing double traffic lines or traveling in wrong direction. Analog cameras installed on the crossroad have been connected to Axis IP-servers. Connectivity is maintained through a fiber-optic network. A Central Monitoring Station is responsible for storage and data processing.

The SecurOS image analytics module supports:

• automatic registration and archival in database of video image of car license plate number; as well as time and date of any incident
• creation of detailed statistical reports and receipt for penalty payment
• vehicles traveling in the wrong direction
• unexpected stoppage of a vehicle; incorrect parking; stoppage in the tunnel
• gap/congestion analysis
• traffic violations

The created system has been successfully deployed for several months and has already delivered results: the accident rate has already decreased; nearly 200 incidents are detected every day. Phase 2 system enlargement has already started: video cameras and ISS Traffic Incident Detection System is implemented on several other major roadways. This measure will allow controlling traffic situation and providing road safety all over the city.
