License Plate Recognition Technology

In accordance with the developed technology, the License Plate Recognition process utilized by SecurOS AUTO proceeds through the following stages:

Stage 1. Normalization of Image

Removal of noise (background characteristics), stabilizing the effects of the loss of focus, correcting for non-uniform brightness distribution from luminous sources, removal of figures or other drawings from the targeted character set.

Stage 2. Localization of Characters in Video Frame

Isolation of regions potentially containing number for the analysis on the basis of the formal idea of the scale characteristics of identification tag.

Stage 3. Conversion

The bitmapped graphical representation of number is converted to vector form, at which time each symbols is further analyzed on the basis of the key characteristics. Utilized algorithms permit the implementation of recognition, independent of scale, utilized type of the symbols of number, optical distortions, adhesion of mud and road grime.

Stage 4. Recognition

The refinement of the results of recognition is achieved on the basis of the assigned templates, what makes it possible to avoid trivial errors - random symbols, etc, determination of an incorrect quantity of symbols in the character set, the recognition of close symbols (in example, O and 0 or 1 and I), etc.

Stage 5. Recognition Comparison with database

The final character set is integrated into a database and matches are searched for.
